- 12 August ~ Last of the US ground troops are removed from Vietnam.
- 5-6 September ~ Munich Massacre: Eleven Israeli athletes are murdered at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich after eight members of the Arab terrorist group ‘Black September’ invade the Olympic Village; five guerrillas and one policeman are also killed in a failed hostage rescue.
- 25 October ~ First female FBI agents were hired.

- 15 December ~ In honor of the birth of fabulous little girl, the United Nations established a specialized agency in a 112-0 vote, The United Nations Environment Programme.
*Perhaps this wasn't done to honor me on my birthday but it is cool that it happened on the same day... mere coincidence? One may never know.
